Modem setup

The DINGO GSM has to be present inside the DINGO device for this setup to work. It is also important that the DINGO GSM has a valid SIM card inserted .

When the modem setup has been enabled, by choosing it as the Internet interface, a schedule is activated inside the crontab that will ensure that the modem is always connected. The process is executed every minute to ensure a connection.

Note:

PIN, username and password, must not be empty. If not used, then enter fake values.

Protocol: This is the protocol used for the modem connection. The recommendation is to use QMI for 4G and newer modems and PPP for 3G and older modems.

PIN: This is the PIN number for the SIM card inside theDINGO GSM.

APN: This is the Access Point Name that should be acquired from the appropriate Internet service provider.

Phone: This is the phone number thatshould be acquired from the appropriate Internet service provider.

Username: This is username for the APN that should be acquired from the appropriate Internet service provider.

Password: This is password for the APN that should be acquired from the appropriate Internet service provider.

Primary ping: This is the first server that is being pinged, to ensures connectivity.

Secondary ping: This is the second server that is being pinged, to ensures connectivity. If only the primary is defined and it fails, then the modem is forced to reconnect. If both are defined and both fail, then the modem is forced to reconnect.

The modem setup can also be configured with the dingo-config tool.

  1. sudo dingo-config

  2. Choose 3 Network setup.

  3. Choose 1 Set Internet interface.

  4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to Modem and use the spacebar to enable the item. Then choose Ok to save the changes.

  5. Then choose 4 Configure modem setup to set the settings for the modem.

    Go through the various settings e.g. protocol, APN etc.

  6. When the Internet interface is set to Modem, a script will run every minute. that will try to make a modem connection, if it is not already connected.
